If you spend a little time looking through celebrant websites, you’ll probably start noticing a pattern.
Soft neutral colours. Script fonts. Watercolour splashes. Tree of life logos. A smiling photo holding a cup of coffee in a field somewhere. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with any of those things individually, the problem starts when everyone looks the same. Because when every celebrant website uses the same style, it becomes difficult for couples to remember which one they actually looked at.
That’s a problem.
Especially in an industry built around personality, trust and emotional connection.
Couples are not choosing a template
One of the biggest misconceptions I see in celebrant branding and website design is the idea that a celebrant website simply needs to “look nice”. Of course it should look professional and welcoming, but that alone isn’t enough anymore.
Couples are not searching for:
- the nicest pastel colour palette,
- the fanciest script font,
- or the trendiest website layout.
They are searching for a person.
Someone they connect with.
Someone who feels genuine.
Someone who sounds like them.
Someone they can imagine standing in front of their friends and family on one of the biggest days of their lives.
And that connection often gets lost when celebrant websites become too generic.
Safe branding often becomes forgettable branding
Many celebrants understandably play it safe with their branding. After all, weddings and ceremonies are emotional and personal, so it can feel risky to stand out too much. But the irony is that playing it too safe often has the opposite effect.
Instead of looking professional, many celebrant websites end up blending into the background because they use the same:
- colours,
- layouts,
- logo styles,
- stock imagery,
- and wording as everyone else.
When couples look at five celebrant websites in a row and they all feel almost identical, it becomes incredibly hard to remember who was who.
And memorability matters.
Your website should help people remember you after they close the browser tab.
Your website should feel like you
This is where good celebrant website design becomes much more than simply arranging text and photos on a page.
A good website should reflect:
- your personality,
- your style of ceremony,
- your tone of voice,
- and the kind of couples or families you want to attract.
A celebrant who delivers bold, energetic, unconventional ceremonies probably shouldn’t look exactly the same online as someone specialising in calm, traditional funeral services. Likewise, a celebrant known for humour and relaxed ceremonies should not sound corporate or overly formal on their website. The design should support who you already are. Not cover it up.
Trends are not personalities
The celebrant industry has trends just like any other industry.
Certain logo styles become popular, colours become fashionable, and website layouts get repeated again and again.
And while trends can be useful for inspiration, building your entire brand around trends can quickly make your website feel generic. Worse still, trends date quickly.
The celebrants who tend to stand out in the long term are usually the ones whose websites feel authentic rather than fashionable. Their branding feels connected to them as a person, not copied from a Pinterest board.
Your logo is only part of the picture
A logo alone will not make your celebrant business memorable. In fact, many celebrants focus far too heavily on choosing a symbol while overlooking the bigger picture.
Your brand is:
- the way you speak,
- the feeling people get from your website,
- your imagery,
- your colours,
- your personality,
- your messaging,
- and the experience people have when they interact with you.
That’s why good branding for celebrants isn’t just about designing a pretty logo. It’s about creating something recognisable and personal. You can explore more about this in my page on [logo design for celebrants].
A celebrant website should guide people, not just impress them
Another common issue is celebrant websites that look visually attractive but do very little to actually guide visitors.
A website should help people quickly understand:
- who you are,
- what type of ceremonies you offer,
- what makes you different,
- and why they should contact you.
Sometimes the most effective celebrant websites are not the most complicated ones. They are simply the clearest. Clear messaging, strong personality and a genuine sense of connection will usually outperform a generic “pretty” website.
Personality is your biggest advantage
The celebrant industry is growing rapidly, which means standing out online matters more than ever. But standing out does not necessarily mean being loud or outrageous. It simply means being recognisable. And recognisable brands are usually built around personality rather than trends.
The celebrants who attract the right people tend to be the ones whose websites genuinely feel like an extension of themselves. Not a template, not a copy of another celebrant, not what they think they are “supposed” to look like.
Just authentic.
Your website should work as hard as you do
A celebrant website should not simply exist online because “you need a website”.
It should help people understand who you are, what makes you different and why you are the right celebrant for their ceremony.
That means creating a website with personality, clarity and confidence rather than simply following what everyone else is doing.
If your current website feels a little too safe, too generic or no longer feels like you, it may be time to rethink how your brand is being presented online.
